(Drivebycuriosity) - Bangkok is a wonderful metropolis, filled with gems. One of them is Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, one of the most famous Buddhist Temples in Thailand - fortunately just some walking minutes away from the Raweekanlaya where we are staying.
The place, also known as marble temple, is an exquisite piece of Thai art & architecture and build with Carrara marble, imported from Italy.
In
1989 when I first visited Bangkok I had a copy of the legendary "Lonely
Planet". This guidebook had tons of information about everything worth to be known of Tailand. There I could learn much
about the architecture of the Wats. I don´thave this very helpful book anymore. Wikipedia does not tell much about Wats - typical for the sad state of the Internet. So I display here just pics without much explaining.
These fancy roof ornaments are called chofa ( http://www.bangkoksightseeing.org/typical-thai-chofa-roof-decoration/ ).
Every Wat has a rich collection of statues.
To be continued.
