Lifestyle: Celebrating Birthday With Bob Dylan & Neil Young @ Hyde Park

(Drivebycuriosity) - Yesterday was my birthday, a round number. My wife and I are staying in London @ the Hard Rock Hotel at Marble Arch. It happened that Neil Young & Bob Dylan gave a concert in the nearby Hyde Park this day. We couldn`t resist the coincidence and bought costly tickets for the oversold event.

The weather was atypically nice with lots of sunshine and about 24 C (76 F ). According to the media about 70,000 people shared the concert with us. Because it was my birthday we treated us with places in the so-called club house which were somewhat distant from the stage but the powerful sound system let us forget the distance and we could comfortably sit there over the whole event.

Neil Young played from 18.00-19.45. The Canadian pleased the crowd with a selection of his hits, including "Heart Of Gold" & "Like a Hurricane" and the audience was dancing. The show focused on mainstream rock and I missed his avant-garde pieces like "Sleeps with Angels", but I enjoyed the gig anyway.

Bob Dylan finished the event from 20:30-22:15. The master came up to his reputation for being a chameleon who always reinvents himself. His set was based on new & swinging melodies and gave his iconic songs new faces.  I could barely recognize his "Like a Rolling Stone" which became a dance song. But the master seemed to be happy and he inspired his audience - like Neil Young did - to dance to his melodies.

I also enjoyed the performance of Cat Power, one of the warmups, who performed powerful & melodic pop songs.

We had a lot of fun! Thanks to Neil & Bob for a great show and to organizers & security for creating and ensuring a wonderful event.
